Melissa Cunningham, MSN, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specializing in co-occurring mental health and substance use treatment. With seven years in the mental health field, including three years as a psychiatric provider and previous experience as a psychiatric registered nurse, she brings extensive expertise to her role. Melissa began her career at Milestone Recovery in withdrawal management, building a strong foundation in addiction treatment. A two-time Jack Kent Cooke Scholar from the University of Southern Maine, she offers compassionate medication management and supportive psychotherapy with a trauma-informed approach. Melissa is deeply committed to serving individuals with limited healthcare access, empowering clients through education and personalized care as they journey toward hope and healing.

Bishop IOP was so patient with me, I came in so angry and not wanting to be here, after 6 weeks I finally came around. The staff just kept caring, patient and being there for me and continued to show me that I matter! There were many times they could have sent me to the hospital but they never did they rode it out with me every single time! The groups had great material but won’t lie they could be tough but learned so much. Our Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) offer structured, multi-disciplinary mental health treatment that provides several hours of daily therapeutic intervention while allowing patients to return home each evening, combining group therapy, individual counseling, psychiatric care, and skill-building activities in a supportive community environment. These programs can catalyze rapid, transformative change for individuals with anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions by providing the intensive support and accountability that traditional weekly therapy or medication management alone may lack, offering multiple therapeutic modalities daily that help break entrenched patterns, develop coping strategies, and create lasting behavioral changes within weeks rather than months or years.
